About this notice
Stukulele is Stu’s ukulele teaching website at stukulele.com. This notice explains how we handle information when you browse, contact us, request a free resource, create an account or buy a course or membership.
For privacy questions or requests, please use Contact Stu. You can start with a short message asking to discuss a privacy matter; please do not include your password or payment-card details.
Information we collect and why
Accounts and learning: your username, email address, profile details you supply, protected password information, course and membership access, lesson progress and saved preferences such as favourites. We use these to provide your account and learning features.
Purchases: the course or plan, order reference, payment status, amount, currency, tax, transaction dates and billing details provided during checkout. We use these to process payments, deliver access, send receipts, handle refunds and maintain transaction records.
Enquiries and free resources: the name, email address, optional phone number, message and other fields you submit, together with your email choices and form submission details. We use them to respond, deliver requested resources and manage any teaching emails you request.
Technical information: our website and security services process information such as IP addresses, browser details, requested pages, request times and security activity to operate the site, diagnose problems and prevent spam or abuse.
You can browse public pages without creating an account. Required form fields are marked. Without the details needed for an account, payment or email delivery, we may not be able to provide that service.
Payments and service emails
Payments are processed through Stripe. Payment-card details are entered into Stripe’s payment service. Stukulele’s payment integration does not store your full card number or card security code in the website database; it retains transaction references and limited payment information needed to manage your purchase.
We use Brevo, through our website’s email delivery service, to send messages such as receipts, account notices and requested resources. The service receives the recipient details and message content needed to deliver these emails. See Brevo’s privacy policy.
Free resources and teaching emails
If you request a free resource and agree to receive teaching emails, we use your name, email address and subscription details to deliver the resource and those emails. Our forms store submissions on the website, and the TAB resource form is connected to Kit for subscriber management. If you choose Australia or Outside Australia on a TAB resource form, we also store that optional pricing preference on the website and in Kit so course emails can show the relevant currency. If you leave it blank, those emails link to the current course price without quoting a currency. When you buy the TAB course, we use your checkout email to match an existing active Kit subscriber and mark them as a course buyer so we can stop course sales emails. Buying the course does not sign you up for marketing emails. If you choose Site & Google Analytics in Cookie settings, we also remember the first source we observe and the latest external source, such as a Facebook ad, YouTube lesson or teaching email. We store only approved public campaign labels, broad referral categories and dates, for use during a maximum 90-day window. If you request a TAB resource and agree to teaching emails, we use a keyed code derived from your email address to match that source history to a later course checkout using the same email. This source history stays on the Stukulele website; it is not copied into Kit or added to the information sent to Google or Meta. Turning analytics off in a recognised browser clears the source history linked to that browser, including linked lead and order records. Expired source records are no longer used and are removed through scheduled cleanup. This does not erase the payment record or unsubscribe you from teaching emails. For a wider deletion request, use Contact Stu.
You can use the unsubscribe link in teaching emails or contact Stu to stop them. Unsubscribing from marketing does not cancel a paid course or stop essential messages about your account or purchase. Email services may process delivery, bounce and email interaction information under their own privacy notices.
Optional Google Analytics
Google Analytics starts only after you allow Site & Google Analytics in our privacy choices. It helps us understand website visits, free-resource requests, checkout starts and course purchases. Leaving Google Analytics switched off does not prevent you from using the site or buying the course.
Analytics information can include browser and session identifiers, visited pages, referring websites, campaign labels, device and browser information, and purchase details such as an order reference, course, amount, tax and currency. Browser requests also disclose technical connection information, including your IP address, to Google. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google’s privacy policy.
Our analytics integration does not send your name, email address, password, billing address or payment-card details as analytics event fields. Browser and session identifiers are not your account name, but they can link visits and purchases.
For a consenting visitor, limited analytics identifiers are associated with the order so that a verified payment can be reported from our server, including when the browser does not return from Stripe.
Use Cookie settings on public pages where the analytics control is shown to change your choice. A saved withdrawal stops future analytics collection and prevents pending purchase reports from being sent once that withdrawal is recorded. It does not recall information already sent to Google or erase records needed to provide your purchase.
This analytics choice does not authorise Meta or personalised advertising tracking. Google advertising features are disabled in this analytics setup.
Optional Meta advertising measurement
If you separately allow Meta advertising in Cookie settings, we use the Meta Pixel and Conversions API to understand whether Facebook and Instagram advertising leads to course visits, checkout starts and paid purchases. This choice is optional and separate from Google Analytics. You can buy and use the course with both choices switched off.
On eligible public course and checkout pages, the Meta Pixel can receive your IP address, browser and device information, the page address and referring page, browser and advertising-click identifiers, and the course activity. For a verified paid order, our server can send Meta the browser or click identifier, browser user-agent information, event time, course, order reference, value and currency. These identifiers can link activity with Meta accounts and can be used by Meta for advertising measurement, delivery and personalisation. We do not send customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, passwords, addresses or card details as Meta event fields; automated advanced matching is disabled. See Meta’s privacy policy and Meta’s cookie policy.
We remember each optional choice for 90 days. Meta’s first-party browser and click cookies normally last up to 90 days, and our short checkout-readiness cookie lasts 30 minutes. Browser restrictions or clearing cookies may shorten these periods. The Meta context temporarily attached to an order is removed after an acknowledged send, or scheduled for removal after seven days if it has not been sent; scheduled cleanup depends on the website’s background tasks running. We keep an order reference, event identifier and delivery status to prevent duplicate reports and reconcile purchases.
Use Cookie settings to withdraw this choice. A saved withdrawal stops new Meta collection by this integration and prevents pending purchase reports from being sent. A Global Privacy Control signal keeps Meta advertising off. Withdrawal does not recall information already received by Meta or delete essential purchase records. Information held by Meta follows its own policies and controls. Contact Stu for privacy requests.
Cookies and embedded lessons
Essential cookies and similar storage support login, site preferences, security and checkout. They operate separately from optional analytics. Blocking essential cookies in your browser may prevent sign-in or other requested features from working.
The analytics preference is remembered for 90 days. With permission, analytics identifier cookies are configured to last up to 90 days from use, and a checkout measurement cookie lasts 30 minutes. Clearing cookies, using another browser or using another device may require a new choice. These cookie periods are not deletion periods for purchase records or information already sent to Google.
Pages may include Vimeo videos and other embedded media or interactive lesson players. When an external player loads, its provider receives connection information such as your IP address and browser details, and may use cookies or account information under its own policies. The analytics choice controls Stukulele’s Google Analytics integration; it does not control every external player. See Vimeo’s privacy policy.
Who receives information
Information is available to the people and services needed to operate Stukulele: website administrators, hosting and backup providers, Stripe for payments, Brevo for service email, Kit for email subscriptions, media providers for embedded lessons, Google for analytics when you allow it, and Meta when you separately allow advertising measurement.
Wordfence and Akismet help protect the site and its checkout from malicious activity and spam. These services may process request, IP address, browser and submitted information for that purpose. See Wordfence’s privacy policy and Automattic’s privacy policy for Akismet.
If you post a public comment or supply a profile image for public display, the content and display name or image may be visible to other visitors. We may also disclose relevant records when legally required or to handle payment disputes and protect the site.
Some providers process information outside Australia. For example, Kit processes information in the United States and other countries, and Stripe describes processing in countries including the United States and India. Provider locations and practices are explained in their linked privacy policies. Overseas privacy laws may differ from Australian law.
Storage and retention
Information is stored in the website’s database, service-provider systems and relevant backups or correspondence. Account and purchase records support ongoing access, including lifetime course access, transaction reconciliation, support and legal record-keeping.
Our form system currently has no automatic expiry for retained submissions; the TAB resource form uses that setting. Form records are not automatically removed by an account-erasure request. Requests to remove them need a separate review. Website email delivery logs are currently configured for automatic deletion after 14 days; that does not delete copies held in mailboxes or by delivery providers.
Analytics identifiers and reporting records associated with an order are retained alongside that order for reconciliation. Cookie settings do not delete these records. Information already sent to Google is subject to the Analytics account’s retention controls and Google’s policies.
Contact Stu to ask about the information held for you or to request deletion. We will review which records can be removed and which are still needed for your service, transaction, security or legal purposes. Backup copies and records held by service providers may follow separate retention cycles.
Access, corrections and privacy concerns
Use Contact Stu to request access to, correction of or deletion of your information, or to raise a privacy concern. We may need to verify your identity before providing account information or making changes. Please identify the account email and the nature of the request; do not send your password.
We will review the request, contact you if more information is needed and explain the outcome, including any information we need to retain. Deleting information needed for your account may affect access to your course or membership; we will explain that before making the change.
If you remain concerned, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner provides information about privacy complaints and when it can assist. Other rights may apply depending on your location and the law that covers your information.
Updates
We may update this notice when our services or information handling changes. The date below identifies this version. Any new advertising tracking will need its own review of the notice and applicable choices before it is introduced.
